SANOS Women's Clinic Now Offering Gynecological Services at SANOS's Gautier 230 Location in Caguas. CAGUAS, March 24, 2023 – The new SANOS Women's Clinic is now offering gynecological services at its facilities located at Gautier 230 in Caguas. Obstetrician-gynecologist Héctor Rodríguez Millayes is in charge of the Women's Clinic, which offers general gynecological procedures, screening, Pap smears, gynecological exams, and breast exams, among other services.
“A timely gynecological checkup can save lives or prevent major surgery. That’s what we try to do here. It’s recommended that women visit a gynecologist at least once a year, just as they have routine checkups with their dentist or primary care physician for regular preventive exams,” Dr. Rodríguez Millayes emphasized.
At the clinic, one of the most frequent problems treated is heavy menstrual bleeding. “The causes of excessive bleeding range from systemic conditions, which need to be identified, to problems such as benign tumors or the development of polyps within the uterus. With heavy periods, a biopsy or hysterectomy is performed, usually in hospitals, under local anesthesia, on the cervix. We can perform these procedures at this clinic,” explained the gynecologist.
There is no specific age to start seeing a gynecologist, as they can treat pediatric patients if there are health issues. In the absence of problems, the first cervical cancer screening, the Pap test, is recommended starting at age 21. Likewise, it is recommended from adolescence if sexual activity has begun, to prevent sexually transmitted infections and to receive guidance on pregnancy prevention methods.
The clinic serves patients from SANOS, patients covered by the Vital health reform program, and clients with private plans. The new women's clinic was made possible through a contribution from Direct Relief, whose executive director, Ivonne Rodríguez, authorized the purchase of equipment and donations for the construction of the facilities.
Dr. Rodríguez Millayes also offers gynecology services at SANOS Los Prados and Plaza SANOS on Rafael Cordero Avenue. The SANOS clinic at Gautier 230 is located on the second floor of the shopping center at 230 Gautier Benítez Street in Caguas.
